OUR STORY
A HEALTHY WELCOME!
While humans have long recognised the dietary and medicinal properties of honey, it’s only in recent years that research has provided growing evidence of the significant health benefits pure honey affords us all. But over the same period, the level of toxic pollutants in our environment and foodstuffs has increased markedly.
That’s where our honey is different … and better! Our native stingless honey bees, from the Meliponini family, collect nectar and pollen from fruit trees we have lovingly and organically grown on the one hundred and twenty acres that comprises THE ORCHARD. They also feed on the Coral Vine, originally a Mexican plant, but introduced to our orchards by Dr S. J. Jong (MBBS, PhD and founder of the Orchard Wellness and Health Resort) because the beneficial compounds in its seeds, leaves and roots transfer to our honey.
With Rosensky honey, not only will you avoid pollutants that counteract the health benefits of many honeys but, because we never add sugars of any kind, our honey is uniquely pure and healthy. WHY CHOOSE ORGANIC HONEY?
When ancient peoples first became aware of the benefits of honey as food and medicine, there were few, if any, pollutants in their environments to undermine honey’s health-giving attributes. Unfortunately, in today’s environment, many pollen-bearing trees are routinely sprayed, many crops are treated with pesticides and many of our waterways carry pollution.
When honey bees gather their nectar and pollen, they inadvertently also gather these pollutants and, even more regrettably, incorporate these unnatural substances into the resulting product. And when other bees gather resin to build their nests, they may collect fluids from animal waste and faeces, which they plaster into their nest entrances (called ‘faecal spotting’) to prevent hornet attacks.
But because THE ORCHARD provides our bees with such an extensive forest of organic fruit trees, you can be sure our honey adheres to one of the strictest requirements for organic certification under ACO (Australian Certified Organic) standards, namely: “Hives must be made from organic materials and only exposed to organic environments and beekeeping techniques in the preparation of the honey.”
